What it is like to be a paranormal investigator?

To be straight and to the point, this is not my day job. I am a rational and pragmatic IT professional. A lot of people will look at you with skepticism when you say I do paranormal  investigations in my spare time and some probably think you should be escorted away by the men in white coats. The may have been a time in my life I would have agreed with them but I am a scientist first and foremost and as such I keep an open mind. Since is all about coming up with a theory and then setting out to find the proof. At some point all science has come under ridicule from Pythagoras who proposed the Earth was a sphere to Copernicus saying the Earth orbited the Sun. Even Albert Einstein doubted Quantum Mechanics. Everything we do not understand we tend to brand as crazy. Paranormal is just a label for things we do not understand, para is from the Greek against or contrary to so paranormal is anything that is outside of our definition of normal.

So as an investigator and scientist I spend a lot of my time trying to find normal explanations for things, TV glamorizes the whole paranormal investigation to compress it into a 40 minute time slot and the reality is far less glamorous, sifting through hours of video and audio. Talking to a voice recorder for hours on end hoping something unheard is talking back to you and checking electrical circuits and household plumbing to see if there are rational explanations. What is left is the exciting part of the job (I say job, we do not charge for our time) and that is why we do it, to try and get an understanding of the world around us that is still yet to be discovered.

I believe there is a scientific explanation for everything, we just don’t have the science yet to explain everything but every day we get closer and closer. One day String Theory may explain the Big Bang and the existence of parallel dimensions, maybe this is where our ghost exist, they are beings or even ourselves in another dimension. Maybe quantum mechanics will give us the definitive answer that if something is not seen it really does not happen (you need to read up on quantum mechanics to have your mind blown).

Until then our job is only just beginning and anything we do is often treated with skepticism but I would rather be remembered with the likes of Copernicus and Pythagorus than that of the many skeptics who have long since been forgotten.

Life after death

This is a question that has been plaguing mankind for an eternity, what happens when our body dies what becomes of our conscious self?

As I have explained, I have had a brief near death experience but this article makes compelling reading http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/03/12/first-hint-of-life-after-death-in-biggest-ever-scientific-study/

I myself was unable to hear what was happening around me, I think I was too busy screaming (although nobody could hear me) but I was fully aware of where and what people were doing.

Science has a real hard time trying to explain why we are conscious as all we are are a bunch of molecules stuck together. Our brain and body is driven by electrical impulses, these impulses are the essence of life. Our body is a big processing factory that converts food into bits for the body to function but also to produce the electricity required to keep these impulses firing. I believe conciousness carries on in some form, looking how the body works it would appear electrical energy plays a big part so I am willing to accept this energy can exist outside of a body (electricity is all around us, unseen but there). The first law of thermodynamics states that in a closed system (which the universe is), energy can neither be created or destroyed, it just changes form.

A new website and new equipment

Having received several calls from  our old out of state website, I decided to decommission the site and launch etexpi.org in our new location. We have spent the last year transitioning our lives to becoming Texans and had to battle some health problems but we are back in action and raring to go, so common Texas bring us what you got! Let the paranormal investigations begin!

I have also been updating some of our equipment although trying to get additional older analog CCTV cameras that will sit on a tripod is proving interesting as the great little camera’s I have are no longer made 🙁 Maybe time to go digital but I find analog is far more realtime and noise free.

We have the usual array of paranormal investigation equipment, 24bit hide audio recorders, CCTV, EMF detectors, thermometers I decided to expand our equipment with a  couple of laser grids which should make detecting movement easier as well as a couple of REM Pod’s which are remote EMF/Temperature sensors that we can leave setup while we go a wondering.

I have used our EMF meters and thermometers to find more down to earth explanations for some occurrences. The spookiest things have been capture on our audio recorders and in a couple of cases I still have no real explanation.
